And here is the tower and spire of St. Michael's in 1932. Click on the photograph to see what it looks like in 2003.

In total contrast to the previous images of St. Michael's, relatively little has altered in this view of the beautiful tower and spire looking from Pepper Lane into Bayley Lane.
The Old County Court still survives as the last building on the left before the cathedral and a bit more of the Golden Cross public house on the right is now visible, only the edge jutting out in the 1932 shot, the rest obscured by the "Toby's Head" public house. The space now vacant on the left nearest to us used to be taken by a tailor's shop on the corner of Derby Lane which disappeared with the construction of the Cathedral Lanes shopping centre.

If you walk towards the spire and turn back, you'll see a view of old Pepper Lane in 1909.
