Holy Trinity Church.

Moving back into the centre of the town, we return to the excellent photographic aerial platform, which is the tower of St. Michael's, for another view of Holy Trinity church. (See the Historic Tour page for more details.) The first shot was taken for a postcard just before the First World War and as can be seen, the church has not significantly altered since then, having survived the blitz largely intact. The main differences that are instantly noticable are behind the church. In 1913, the immediate background consisted of West Orchard (street) Butcher Row and Cross Cheaping. In 2002, Allders (formerly Owen Owen, now Primark) and Trinity Street (mostly hidden behind the trees on the right) dominate the centre of the photograph, whilst tower blocks - my least favourite type of building - clutter up the skyline!
